FUSURUP: a new eTwinning project

May 29th, 2008

Using English as our common language and combining different school subjects, we wish to give our pupils the opportunity to communicate with other European teenagers and encourage them to be creative via interactive activities. The teachers involved in the project choose what to propose as far as it implies an answer from the other participants. A calendar with the first activities planned is decided on at the beginning of the school year but other elements can be added throughout the year.

Alamillo Bridge

March 20th, 2008

Hello,

There are our answers for the Alamillo Bridge.

1) 168 m = 168000 cm

168000 : 30 = 560

I must walk 560 steps to cover the Barqueta Bridge.

2)b) We don’t understand this question because we haven’t got enough measures.

3)a) 1 knot = 1,852 km/h so 1,5 knots = 2,778km/h

t = d/v = 1,17/2,778 = 0,421 h

1 h = 60 min so 0,421 h = 25,26 min

The Sevilla team takes 25,26 minuts.

b) 25,26 + 3 = 28,26 min

60 min = 1 h so 28,26 min = 0,471 h

v = d/t = 1,17/0,471 = 2,484 km/h

The average speed of the Betis team is 2,484 km/h.

c) 60 min = 1 h so 3 min = 0,05 h

d = v*t = 2,484 * 0,05 = 0,1242 km = 124,2 m

There is 124,2 meters between the two teams.

Bye and thanks for this Gymkhana!

March 19th, 2008

1)In the right-angled triangle, we use the Pythagoras theorem:

109.6² - 50²

=97.5

The height of the Giralda tower is 97.5 meters.

2)2.5/1.5*58.5=97.5

The height of the Giralda tower is 97.5 meters.
